Students planning to participate in this year’s Polar Plunge that will take place on February 18 have begun collecting sponsorships. SR’s participation in this annual event has taken place for 10 years.

Since 2010 South Ripley has been named “Overall Top Cool School”. In 2010 Polar Plunge raised 1,082 dollars, in 2011 981 dollars were raised, in 2012 1,684 dollars were raised, 2,408 dollars were raised in 2013, and 2,571 dollars were raised in 2014. That’s an overall total of 8,726 dollars.

Over 50, 000 dollars were raised through various schools, organizations, businesses, and individuals who formed teams to dive in the freezing waters for a great cause.

Former student Carah Beck raised 1,035 dollars on her own last year.
